Mechanisms of Acupuncture in Improving Sleep Disorders
This course is approved by NCCAOM/NCBAHM (5 AOM-BIO), California (Category 1), Florida (Biomedical Sciences), Texas (5 Bio) and British Columbia (Canada)
The mechanisms by which acupuncture points alleviate sleep issues like trouble falling asleep and excessive sleepiness are explained in this course from a contemporary biomedical standpoint. The course will examine how afferent neural signals from points like Baihui (GV20), Shenmen (HT7), Sanyinjiao (SP6), Yintang (EX-HN3), etc. affect the central nervous system, controlling the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, reducing aberrant cortisol elevation, and enhancing sleep quality. The course further explores the regulatory effects of acupuncture point stimulation on melatonin and its receptors, as well as its impact on the circadian rhythm centers and the biological clock.
