The course presents the history of bloodletting therapy and summarizes the contents of Yellow Emperor's Canon (Huangdi Neijing) and Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion (Zhen Jiu Da Cheng) on bloodletting therapy. The course lists the characteristics and techniques of the commonly used bloodletting tools, such as the three-edged needle and the plum blossom needle. The effect and features of bloodletting acupuncture therapy are also listed in detail. The frequency, bleeding volume, precautions, contraindications of bloodletting and treatment of hematoma after bloodletting are discussed. Commonly used bloodletting points, such as the extra points of Sifeng, DU 14 (Dazhui), UB 40 (Weizhong), twelve Jing-well points, and ear apex, are discussed, and their locations, functions, and bloodletting procedures are explained in detail.
